Bergman Island (2021)

A movie about a filmmaking couple who travel to an island to work on their screenplays that's made by (you guessed it) a member of a filmmaking couple. She describes her screenplay to him, but instead of a lively discussion about the creative process, he just tells her he can't help her, much to our boredom. Her screenplay is dramatized for the viewer, and it's no more intriguing than the story that frames it (a young woman loves a young man, but he has a girlfriend – boo-hoo). There's an attempt to make things meaningful by interweaving the two stories, but this adds little.

I enjoyed the scenery, and Tim Roth seemed relaxed and ready to be interesting, but he was never given the chance. The best scene was when a Swedish character ranted about Bergman. Mia Wasikowska is wasted. Avoid.

"Can't I say something interesting?"
