Two Russian fashion models portray woman traumatized by World War II. Masha, the shorter of the two women, wore this curious smile through most of the film that seemed intriguing at first, but over time, it grew tiresome and seemed more like a tic. Alan Smithee began to suspect that fashion models might not make the most adept actors. Masha's emotional abuse of poor "Beanpole" was hard to watch. Great films, of course, can be about anything, but this just felt cruel, and Masha came across as a sociopath. Watch at your own risk (a perpetual warning).
