I was predisposed to dislike this film (I thought "X" was meh, and I don't care for Ti West's obsession with unlikeable characters). Pearl (the woman) was also highly unlikable, and I agreed with her mother in every terrible thing she said about Pearl, but in the end, Mia Goth won me over. Her monologue near the end was pretty amazing. It pains me to say all this, as I don't like to encourage beautiful, entitled models-turned-actresses (they already get too much encouragement), but I have to admit that she's pretty great in this. Tandi Wright (the mom) is also great, as is Emma Jenkins-Purro as Pearl's friend.
